Empower Aged Care

Personalised support from a personal experience

Nicole Dunn was inspired to create Empower Aged Care Consulting in Melbourne after caring for her Nanna who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015, after experiencing first-hand how difficult the aged care system can be.

Home Care Consultant delivering support for carers

As a Home Care Consultant in Melbourne and Geelong Nicole delivers compassionate support to other carers.

During her time caring for her Nanna, Nicole often found herself thinking how she wished there was someone to ease the burden of doing all the advocacy and research into home care.

The endless calls and referrals to arrange home based aged care services was tiring and stressful but more importantly it took time away from being with a loved one. Nicole thought there had to be a better way.

Navigating the aged care system could have been made easier by having the right information at the right time.

Nicole provides a service that supports older people and their carers to make informed decisions and guides them to plan and implement a course of action. As a carer Nicole can truly understand what families are going through and can offer the right support at the right time.

Trusted Voice and Carer Champion

As an advocate for carers Nicole has gained public recognition after being invited to share her carer experience at the Mildura hearing of the Aged Care Royal Commission in July 2019.

You can see her evidence here.

Nicole continues her work to achieve greater recognition for carers by volunteering with Carers Victoria as a ‘Carer Champion’.

"One of the nicest people we have met, Nicole made us feel comfortable with our Mum's condition and care needs going ahead as regards dementia and memory loss that we are seeing more frequently each day. Nicole has a wealth of knowledge and this, in turn, gave us hope for the months ahead as the stress can be a mountain in itself. Thank you Nicole and we will keep in touch with you and we will keep in touch with Empower Aged Care, you are awesome."
